Cynthia de Witt Wijnen and team of NewGround Law advised Deka Immobilien Investment on the acquisition of the international headquarters of Booking.com in Amsterdam. The transaction is based on a sale-and-leaseback agreement.
Deka Immobilien acquired the Booking.com campus in Amsterdam, the international headquarters of the world-renowned online travel agency, for a purchase price of EUR 566 million for two of their funds, Deka-ImmobilienEuropa en WestInvest InterSelect.
The Booking.com property is brand new real estate at an A-location in the heart of Amsterdam. Oosterdokseiland, also known as ‘Silicon Island’, is one of the largest inner-city projects in Western Europe with 225,000 square meters of floor space. The multifunctional building of developer BPD and architects UN Studio offers space for more than 5000 employees and will partly be a public meeting place. The new Booking.com international headquarters take up 53,000 square meters, the other spaces are intended for apartments, public functions, and parking facilities for both cars and bicycles.
The newly constructed campus will receive “BREEAM Excellent” certification and underscores Deka Immobilien’s approach to sustainable investing. Key innovative design features of the Booking.com campus include solar panels on a moss-sedum roof, careful development of the campus as a SMART building, and connection to the main latent energy storage system (LTEO).
Deka Immobilien Investment and WestInvest Gesellschaft für Investmentfonds are part of the Deka Group. Together, both funds manage € 50 billion worth of real estate.
